The imidazole ring serves as the core functional structure, providing three key biological activities: scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), chelating pro-oxidant metal ions such as copper and zinc, and inhibiting the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) by preventing protein glycation cross-linking.
